Personal Growth and Development Workshop

Ms. Barbara Dash says she has lived in Israel for the past 12.5 years. She says she started a non-profit organization in Israel called “The Integrity Society”. This society gives workshops in “Personal Growth and Development”. She started the first “city Kibbutz” which is a collective community. Her three objectives for this talk: 1. To let you know what’s going on in the middle-east; 2. It’s very important for Americans and Canadians to know what is going on in the middle-east because “their handling of the news is very, very significant to what happens over there”; 3.

Peaceful Relationships

Ms. Yvonne Duncan is from New Zealand is greets the attendees in the Maori language.the audience was then invited to introduce themselves to each other. She then explains what peace education is to her. She realized that teachers are “models” of what they believe. She went on to tell the methods she uses with students to get them to relate the issue of “peace” to all levels of human experience, starting with the self and working outward. She tells the story of how a company who planned to build nuclear radiation plant in New Zealand was permanently halted in their efforts.

Attunement with Life equals a return to the Sacred

[There is some machine-like noise in the background of this audio which is distracting.] Ms. Feagan begins by asking who feels the name they were given was perfect for them. She goes on to relate that many experiences we have are not haphazard but have a purpose. Using the Native-American medicine wheel she addresses the subject of “sacredness”. On the wheel only man, of all creation, is the “determiner”. She encourages the audience to give voice to their thoughts as this is much more powerful than simply thinking them.

Non Violent Communication

In this two hour long presentation Mr. Rosenberg outlines four levels of applying his model of non violent communication: 1) Living with compassion within ourselves; 2) in our home ; 2)  ; 3) at our work; and 4) in our political work. Also people need to examine “what they are doing”; “how they feel about it”; “their desires that are not being met in relationship to their behavior” and finally, what they need to ask the other person that they would like from them”. Mr. Rosenberg uses examples from his own experience to demonstrate the issues involved in non-violent communication.

Community Building & Creating a Safe Serving climate

This audio is a round table discussion with perhaps a dozen participants talking back and forth. The speakers hare their personal experiences with community building. Of special importance was the role of meditation and the emphasis on spiritual, rather than material education. Problems faced in parenting and youth empowerment were discussed and they shared their conserns and thoughts about how to create a safe environment for service in their respective communities.

Your Choice - Self Destruction or Self Control

Ms. Lynn Weiss gave a detailed example of the natural destructiveness of human behavior. She has observed while at a child care center, nine out of ten four-year-old boys that were misbehaving caused the grownups there a great deal of distress. What needs to be understood is that these children have a great deal of untrained power for change within them. Ms. Weiss explained that we have to awaken a child’s conscience as a way to control his behavior and to teach them the basic survival knowledge they need to live productively in society.
