Peaceful Relationships

1988

Ms. Yvonne Duncan is from New Zealand is greets the attendees in the Maori language.the audience was then invited to introduce themselves to each other. She then explains what peace education is to her. She realized that teachers are “models” of what they believe. She went on to tell the methods she uses with students to get them to relate the issue of “peace” to all levels of human experience, starting with the self and working outward. She tells the story of how a company who planned to build nuclear radiation plant in New Zealand was permanently halted in their efforts. She explained how personal goal-setting was taught to her students, which is a form of self-empowerment. After an hour each member of the audience was invited to take time to write a “plan of action” The remaining 40 minutes consist of the audience reporting back. Because the individuals reporting were not miked this portion of the audio is very hard to discern.
