Bahiyyih Khanum, the only daughter of Bahá'u'lláh, served the interests of the Baha'i Faith and was occasionally trusted with running the affairs of the Faith on her own. She is regarded as the most outstanding woman in religious history. With the death of her Father in 1892, Bahíyyih Khanum was one of the few family members of `Abdu'l-Bahá to accept his leadership,
and remain firm in the Covenant. She became His staunch companion. After the death of 'Abdu'l-Baha, she supported the young Shoghi Effendi in his who was appointed Guardian of the Faith. She was appointed temporary leadership of the Faith during `Abdu'l-Bahá's journeys to the West and again when Shoghi Effendi was away from the Holy Land. This role of feminine leadership is rare for a woman in any faith. During these periods Bahíyyih Khánum dealt with
the affairs of the Faith both within the Holy Land and without. These included meeting dignitaries, making speeches on `Abdu'l-Bahá’s behalf, meeting
officials and offering medical help for the sick and poor. Bahíyyih Khanum also dealt with the spiritual and administrative guidance of the worldwide Bahá’í community which entailed writing 82 letters of encouragement to communities around the world.
