Green Lake Conference

1984 - Green Lake Conference

This Cycle is Distinguished

Dr. Jane Faily

Jane Faily starts by saying that as the “all human institutions are in disorder”; so too is Bahá’í marriage.  We live in one of the most trying times in history.

Ms. Faily then explores the traditional roles of men and women in marriage and society. In the past there was stability and harmony in marriage; that order rested on the dominance of men and the compliance of women. That has disappeared. “We are in an awkward age.” The harmony has vanished. We need to recreate the institution of marriage based on Bahá’í teachings.

The USA and Canada are co-sharers in ‘Abdu’l-Bahia’s “Tablets of the Divine Plan”. Describes the secular American culture contrasted with the Bahá’í culture. Discusses the twin processes of “disintegration” and “integration” going on in the world. Describes the role of the Hands of the Cause of God.

Appeals to the friends to respond to suffering of the Baha’is of Iran by teaching the Faith and living the life.

The Power of Baha’u’llah

Mr. Khadem explained that God uses the Messengers to bring man from darkness into light. Man has been prepared and encouraged to prepare himself for this greatest day of God: The day of the Lord, Baha'u'llah.

Remembrance of the King of Somoa & the Guardian

Everything we have today in this world and in the Baha'i community is from the sacrifice of Bahá’u’lláh and his followers. Hand Khadem then told his wonderful experiences that he had with The King of Samoa. He said: "The day I arrived the news reached us that the King of Samoa is in London; I managed to see him. His heart was so attracted to the beloved Shoghi Effendi he told us "Everything the Cause has is because of his labors". He told at the someone the reason of his coming to London was to see and give  respect to the beloved Shoghi Effendi at his Resting Place.

House of Worship

Addresses the structure of the Baha’i House of Worship (HOW) in Wilmette. “What is the structure of the building itself?” Mr. Shaw worked on the HOW Restoration Committee with five other people. They were charged with returning the building to its original integrity. Gives background by reviewing the construction history of the HOW. Tells the process by which leaks in the dome of the HOW were found and fixed. They got a repair quote from a construction company for under $50,000 which was considered very good. Mr. Shaw goes into some detail on the restoration of the HOW.
