Archival Collection of Talks on Various Bahá'í Subjects

You Must Take the First Step

1988

Mr. Bob Harris dedicates his talk to the six Bahá’í youth whose “complete love for Bahá’u’lláh” caused them to be executed on 18 June 1983 in Shiraz, Iran. Bahá’í youth everywhere are called upon to “vindicate the sacrifice” of these youth” quoting the cable of the Universal House of Justice, Mr. Harris reads: “SURELY, YOU WILL SEE THAT THE HEROIC DEEDS OF SACRIFICE ON THE PART OF OUR IRANIAN BRETHREN ARE MATCHED WITH CORRESPONDING EFFORTS ON YOUR PART IN THE VAST FIELDS OF TEACHING AND SERVICE…”. He goes on to explain that it is his task in this talk, “to contribute what he can to this conference so that we understand that these sacrifices are not in vain.” He makes the analogy of launching a spaceship to launching the plan set forth by the House of Justice in their Ridvan 1988 message. Implores the youth to not waste their time on the “garbage of the world” but to focus on the Cause of God. “Keep the vision clear.”
