Martyr, The Witness to the Nobility of Man

1984

Humans possess an animal nature which is potentially dangerous and could be the cause of aggressive, destructive and sinful actions. In this glorious dispensation human beings were created to be noble, which is a much great station then that of animals. Bahá’u’lláh said “Noble I created Thee”. The very orientation of humanity is to consider oneself to be less than others. Humanity is on a journey to eternity. Bahá’u’lláh tells us, “Self knowledge is same as the knowledge of God.” People are constantly absorbed in themselves, their relationships and their time. Nothing great should happen without effort and suffering. The dictionary definition of a martyr states: “The person who is put to death or endures great suffering on behalf of any belief or social justice.” In the Tablet of Ahmad Bahá’u’lláh calls us martyrdom, so that we may bear the witness to Reality. When an individual believes in Bahá’u’lláh, he will pass all of the fabled “Seven Valleys” and will become a martyr for the will of God. If the believer starts doubting his faith in Bahá’u’lláh he will lose all that he found in spirit and would have to begin again his journey to God. Human beings are spiritual beings.
