Dr. DeArujo is introduced by explaining that he has taken a leading role among the Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) at the United Nations. Dr. DeArujo topic is the importance of the family in the reconstruction of the planet. He begins by quoting ‘Abdu’l-Bahá: “A family is a nation in miniature.” DeArujo continues, “Enlarge the circle of families and you have a nation. Enlarge the circle of nations and you have humanity.” Both the conditions and the happenings in the family are reflected in the nation. What he has learned about family comes from personal experience of his own family and that of his work in the United Nations. “We must look at the variety of cultures around the world; be able to sort out the contributions that would enrich a world culture from those that have neither religious nor scientific validity any longer.” Without the vision of Baha’u’llah we cannot bring the family back to its vital function. He feels the best of each culture should be sought out and preserved. After 50 minutes the floor is turned over to the audience for comments and questions. These consume the remaining 43 minutes of the recording.
