Secret Service

1987

Counsellor Harris speaks of the importance of a lifetime of service to God which is actually service to ourselves, our community and service to Bahá'u'lláh. He quotes Bahá'u'lláh Book of Laws (Kitab-i-Aqdas): "Obey to my commandments for love of my beauty". Obeying His command brings us closer to Him; so much so we surrender our will to it. We need to study the Faith, deepen in it, pray and teach it to other. Sometimes we just can't feel it in our heart. Why is that? He shares two quotes from the Hidden Words. The first: "O Son of Dust!  All that is in heaven and earth I have ordained for thee, except the human heart, which I have made the habitation of My beauty and glory; yet thou didst give My home and dwelling to another than Me; and whenever the manifestation of My holiness sought His own abode, a stranger found He there, and, homeless, hastened unto the sanctuary of the Beloved. Notwithstanding I have concealed thy secret and desired not thy shame.” The second quotation explains we have a heart that belongs to God alone. “O My Friend in Word!  Ponder awhile. Hast thou ever heard that friend and foe should abide in one heart? Cast out then the stranger, that the Friend may enter His home.” What is the stranger that in our heart…our ego. We should remove this stranger from our hearts.
