Dr Eyford recalls visits that he made to countries such as Cuba, China and Ecuador where he learned how to address the problems of life by consulting with the communities involved. From that he found specialists to provide expertise and technological support. He recalled that ‘Abdu’l-Baha had advised the Baha'is to share their learnings with others. We have amassed a great deal of knowledge and know-how about developing commerce but we don’t know how to transfer learnings from one community to another. In their September 2, 1982 message to the International Conference in Montreal the Universal House of Justice advised us that we “should …provide technological expertise to communities which need it, and supply an uninterrupted flow of resources to support the ever-increasing international projects of the Faith.” That was one of the first signal from the House of Justice that we should provide technological expertise to less privileged communities. We need to remember the purpose of the Faith is to provide unity, which produces integration and acts as a civilizing force.
